House of Hope in Baldur's Gate 3: walkthrough [guide]

House of Hope in Orpheus, Raphael, and other side characters.

In the complete guide to the House of Hope in BG3, we will pay attention to how to get inside, rescue Hope from captivity, pick up the Orphic Hammer, effectively kill all the bosses of the location, and also tell you how to take out all the valuables hidden by Raphael.

How to get to the House of Hope in Baldur's Gate 3

"The Devil's Share" on the map of the Lower Town To get to the House of Hope, you need to visit the “Devil's Share” store in the northern part of the Lower City and open the portal - it is located on the 2nd floor.

How to open a portal to the House of Hope

Helsik from "The Devil's Share". The ingredients necessary to activate the portal can be purchased for 20 gold from the store owner - Helsik, or the test and receive a 000% discount - in this case, the final price will be 50. If you don’t want to spend money, you can secretly enter the 10nd floor, find the necessary items and call the portal yourself. Let's look at the last option in detail, for which you will need jug of water:

  1. Go up the stairs to the 2nd floor, to the locked door. The path to it is blocked by a magical mine: if you step on it, it will blow up the character. Neutralize the magic trap by giving water to the amulet hanging on the wall to the right of the door: simply combine it with water from your inventory.
  2. Having extinguished the trap, open the lock to Helsik's chambers [KS - 15].
  3. Collect items for the ritual in the chambers: hellish marble in a luxurious chest [KS - 20], a skull in a wooden coffin, incense on the nightstand, a diamond in a gilded chest near the table with a monster skull [KS - 20], a coin of Mammon in a gilded chest standing in the bedroom, on the chest of drawers [KS - 20], there you will find the Mask of Soul Perception.

  4. There is a pentagram drawn on the floor in the middle of the room. Place the ingredients in the correct corners of the picture to summon a portal.

If everything is positioned correctly, the pentagram will light up and open a portal to Hell, where Raphael’s residence is located.

From the House of Hope you cannot move to the camp and take a long rest, and the battles here are especially difficult, especially on Tactics. Before going to this location, make sure you sleep, eat, buy potions, scrolls and the best equipment.

Completing all quests in the House of Hope in BG3

In this section we will tell you how to get out of Raphael’s monastery and save Nadezhda by stealing the Orphic hammer and killing all the enemies.

Save Hope in Baldur's Gate 3

After teleportation, travelers will meet a character named Nadezhda; from now on, they will sometimes have to undergo checks to calm the girl down and ask her new questions about the location. There are options for intelligence, charisma, wisdom or execution [KS - 10].

If you talk some sense into Nadezhda, who is clearly not herself, offer to save her from the clutches of Raphael and ask about the hammer, then she herself will ask for help. Answer positively and go explore the estate: the heroes will be given debtor's clothes - only in them can they walk around the house.

Talk to the Archivist

To save Hope in Baldur's Gate 3, you need to get Orphic Hammer. Run to the archive and talk to Nadezhda at the entrance. Select the following replicas:

  1. “You must calm down, Nadezhda... and guide me.”
  2. a Charisma, Intelligence, or Wisdom check for a chance to ask a follow-up question [KS - 15].
  3. “What else is in the Archives that I should know about?”
  4. “Looks like we have a better chance with the archivist.”
  5. Belief: “Who is the archivist afraid of, Nadezhda? I need a name" [KS - 18].

If you successfully complete the last check, you will learn the name of Verillius Receptor, whom the archivist is afraid of. Now all that remains is to pretend to be him - deceive the interlocutor in the dialogue by introducing yourself as the High Inquisitor Zariel [KS - 15], or by detecting thoughts, find out who the archivist is expecting and introduce yourself to them.

The result of the tricks will be an invitation received from the archivist to the boudoir in the House of Hope. Now you can go into the room without paying attention to the protective screen.

There is an alternative path to the boudoir that does not require diplomacy: go out to the northeastern balcony of the house and jump from it onto the rocky path along which you can reach Raphael’s personal room.

Play with Haarlep or kill him

Haarlep in Baldurs Gate 3 Once inside the boudoir, meet with Haarlep. He knows how to find Orphic Hammer, but he doesn’t intend to share the secret just like that - the demon is in high spirits and will invite the character to “play.” What options exist to get out of the situation:

  1. Play with Haarlep. If you don't lose your soul during the game, you will receive the Key to Raphael's safe. If you lose it, the character will die.
  2. Kill Haarlep. In this case, fight him and 6 more vengeful demons. From the demon's body, take Raphael's Safe Key and Hell's Dusk Gloves, which give +1 to spell attack rolls and to the DC of tests against spells, +1-6 weapon fire damage or +1-6 necrotic damage with bare hands, as well as the "Rays of Fire" spell " Gloves can only be removed from Haarlep's corpse.

If everything is clear with option 2, then in case 1 you need to be careful not to die in the arms of a demon. Consistently choose the following lines to stay alive after the “game”:

  1. To the question “Why are you here, thief?” answer neutrally, for example - “I won’t tell you.”
  2. "What game is this?"
  3. Agree to the demon's offer to undress.
  4. Select the "Lie Down" option.
  5. Use the "Resist Charm while Trying to Maintain Free Will" Wisdom check [DC - 15].
  6. Ultimately, it is necessary that as a result of the “game” Haarlep does not swallow the soul of the character. Choose the line “You can take my body, but not my mind,” then “I swear, my body is now yours.”

Haarlep will take on the character's appearance and, as a reward for such a gift, will reveal Raphael's secrets. Ask the demon "How can I find the hammer?" and he will give Raphael's safe key, giving a tip on where to use it.

Raphael's safe behind the painting On one of the walls of the boudoir you will see a large portrait of Raphael, and just below there is a button. Click on it to move the painting, there is a safe carved into the wall - it is protected by a trap that must be disarmed [KS - 20]. After moving the painting, open the safe with the key you received from Haarlep. Cache contents:

  • Soul Coin - 5.
  • Raphael's Notes - read them to find out the that removes the protective dome from the Orphic Hammer in the archive.

In the boudoir bath there is a tap, the water from which restores HP: a great alternative to avoid wasting a quick rest.

Steal the Orphic Hammer

Room with an Orphic hammer on the House of Hope map

Return to the Archive, go to the stand with the Orphic Hammer and apply the knowledge received from the note by selecting the line “Give me what my heart desires.” The protective dome will be deactivated and the hammer can be taken away.

Note: as soon as you take the hammer from the pedestal, all the workers of the House of Hope, except for Hope herself, will become hostile. You can't escape from the house without a fight with Raphael.

In a separate article, they discussed in detail where to find the Orphic Hammer and how to use it.

Save Hope

Fight your way to the eastern part of the location (X: -6450; Y: 2910), break open the prison hatch [KS - 10] and go down to the Prison of Hope. Pre-equip one of the heroes with the Orphic Hammer.

Hope in Baldurs Gate 3 In prison, the heroes have 2 tasks:

  • Use the Orphic hammer to break 2 large red crystals that bind Hope.
  • Kill a squad of enemies that contains 2 Observers.

As soon as you rescue Nadezhda, she will the squad. Leave the prison and return to the portal through which you were transported to the hellish abode.

How to kill Raphael

Convincing Yurgir in BG3 In the room with the teleport, an enraged Raphael will be waiting along with reinforcements: cambrios, Yurgir and Corilla. One of the minions can be lured to your side: Yurgir by choosing the line “Switch to the side of the winners. Raphael has no chance in a fight with me" [KS - 30]. Corilla, apparently, is not possible to lure away.

After a verbal altercation, the battle will begin. The victory strategy involves the use of crushing weapons: you need as soon as possible break 4 Pillars of the Soul, which increase Raphael’s fire damage to +48 units; without them, his attacks will become noticeably less effective. Several features of Raphael, and how to use them to your advantage:

  • Raphael is vulnerable to psychic damage. Githyanki weapons will serve well in defeating him.Raphael's characteristics in Baldurs Gate 3
  • The enemy's strengths are his complete invulnerability to fire and a fixed amount of health at all difficulty levels: 666 HP. Don't use fire magic.
  • Please note that Raphael has the status "God's punishment", allowing him, after receiving radiant damage, to take a retaliatory action and tear out the caster’s soul. Do not use radiant spells or techniques.Raphael's characteristics in Baldurs Gate 3
  • Raphael uses Soul Charges, allowing him to cast powerful fire spells over an area, which, even at an easy level, will destroy up to 90% of HP. In human form, he will not be able to cast such powerful magic if the Soul Pillars are broken, but will temporarily transform into The towering beast, and in this guise he does not need pillars to inflict colossal fire damage.
  • Try to ungroup the squad so that the fire magic of the Exalted Beast does not hit at least part of the team.
  • Raphael can be knocked to the ground, scared and disoriented. Most combat feints
  • A fire protection potion will be a good help in resisting Raphael's Raging Hellfire.
  • Nadezhda will have a unique set of “Divine Intervention” spells in battle, and only 1 of them can be used once during the entire adventure. We recommend using the “Lush Ritual” mass healing if Raphael’s “Raging Hellfire” nevertheless puts the group on the brink of survival.

General strategy for fighting a demon:

  1. Send two heroes with blunt weapons to break Pillars of the Soul, let the rest deal with the vengeful Cambrions and Corilla.
  2. Spread out your team to prevent Raging Hellfire from burning everyone in your party, and use your best spells and techniques based on the tips listed above.

Awards

Rewards for the fight with Raphael The following items will be rewards for the battle:

  • Soulcatcher gloves - Nadezhda will give them for saving her.
  • From Raphael's body you will receive the Armor of Hell's Sunset and his diaries.

If you previously managed to lure Yurgir to your side, and if he remains alive, talk to him and offer to the battles in Baldur's Gate. So Yurgir will become an ally of travelers and will come to their call in the final battle of the game.

Free Orpheus

Using the one received at the House of Hope Orphic Hammer, break the magical barrier holding Orpheus in the astral plane: the heroes will have a chance to get there towards the end of the game. Visiting the astral plane is a necessary step in completing the main plot, so this location cannot be missed.

In a separate article, they how to save and free Orpheus.

How to Search House of Hope and Miss Nothing

Map of all chests and hidden valuables in the House of Hope In the House of Hope there are several locked chests and a whole cache hiding extremely valuable pieces of equipment.

Near the hatch to the prison of Hope there is a locked one luxury chest No. 1 [KS - 10]: Inside is some gold, alchemy ingredients and a scroll (the specific content of non-unique loot in BG3 chests varies).

In the main hallway of the House of Hope there is a wall with a Devil's Gem installed. (X: -6450; Y: 2910). The heroes must first notice him, ing an attentiveness check, and then make 2 successive rolls: for wisdom [DC - 10] and magic [KS - 20].

Behind the stone wall are boxes with the following prizes:

  • Gold - 666.
  • Hell's Sunset Helm. Grants “Infernal Vision”, allowing you to see in magical and normal darkness at a distance of 12 meters, and protects against blindness. Also grants the wearer “Magic Durability,” which adds 2 points to tests against spells, protects against critical hits, and grants “Withering Gaze.”
  • On a pedestal in cache The Spell Power Staff is stored, granting +1 DC against spells and to spell attack rolls, as well as providing the wizard with a “Magic Battery”, the use of which will allow you not to waste a spell slot for casting.
  • On the stand closest to the door lies Contract Mol. Take the contract between the tiefling thief and Raphael to return it to the girl and free her from her obligations to the devil.

On the way to the archive, open luxury chest No. 2 [KS - 15] on the chest of drawers, inside you will find a potion of angelic sleep, some gold and tools.

At the end of the hall, in the corner near the door to the archives, there is an open luxury chest No. 3 with curiosities and gold.

In Raphael's boudoir, on both sides of the bathhouse there are luxury chests No. 4-5 [KS - 15]: in them you will find gold, a potion of angelic sleep and one legendary scroll.

After you take the Orphic Hammer from the pedestal in the archive, examine the other items in the room:

  • There are several locked storefronts nearby. Hack them [KS - 10] and get various small curiosities: pearls, diamonds, metal ingots.
  • The archive also contains the Hill Giant's Gauntlets of Strength, which increase the wearer's strength to 23 and add +1 to strength tests.
  • The last pedestal of the archive contains the Amulet of Great Health, which increases stamina to 23 and gives advantage on checks for this parameter.

If you like to dress up characters in BG3, don’t forget to take out the contents of the closets in Raphael’s boudoir: he’s a big fashionista, since he has such a rich collection of outfits.

If there are barrels of gunpowder, you can put 2 near each pillar and blow them up, it is very convenient to use the spell fire rays for this. Only the boss and some mobs will remain.

First playthrough. Left Astarion to guard the portal, three of us combed through the archive, the treasury, and so on. On the way back, I sent Nadezhda to hell, went straight to the exit, met Raphael. After 5 attempts to fight fairly, I ran through the doors into the age, leaving Karlah to hold the doors like Gandalf, and I ran off to heal. Raphael ed Karlah, stood with his back to her... Well, I pushed him over the railing into the rift.
It's a shame about the armor, but I like this method.

Valor. We use Divine Intervention for Nadezhda, which deals massive radiant damage. Nadezhda has a one-time resurrection after death and no one really focuses on her, so this is a good help for clearing all the cambions, and reflecting radiant damage from the cambions will not really interfere with her salvation (In extreme cases, she has very powerful healing spells). The rest have 20-25 hp, and if there is a pumped priest in the squad, we simply throw the same resurrection on him (which the priest has in his arsenal), and repeat the trick with Divine Intervention (priest level 10). Thus, we easily clear the battlefield of annoying sycophants. As for the pillars, a pumped-up monk with a ton of crushing damage, chi points and additional attacks, plus 27 strength under the elixir of the cloud giant (the pillars take about 2-3 lines of attacks) will work just perfectly here. One such monk easily destroys the pillars in 4-5 turns with his mobility. Elixirs of speed and a dome of invulnerability are desirable, since no elixir of resistance to fire will help against hellfire (read the description of hellfire, it ignores resistance to regular fire). I can also add a line about the usefulness of a paladin in battle, since buffs for radiant damage and healing after removing protection from cambions with divine intervention really save the day. Plus, his attacks with punishment, which deal about 100 damage on the 5-6th circle, if you're lucky, quickly get rid of Raphael. A priest, for example SH at high levels has an almost infinite spell command, which under blessing has about 50 percent to work. Just cast order - stop on Raphael every turn, and he can't do anything for the turn. Depending on the situation, a barbarian will do, who will finish off the remaining cambions and help break the pillars. The spell wall of blades will also be very helpful, which at high cells removes from 40 to 60 HP, almost one-shotting the cambions.
No one has yet noted the fact that in the latest versions you will not be able to leave Nadezhda's house and, for example, replenish your stock of explosive barrels, since there is a danger zone throughout the entire location. In the boudoir near the fountain there are restorative taps that completely heal and restore cells with one-time focuses.
A difficult fight if you don't know what to expect from it, even on medium difficulty you manage to die (the first times my incredibly strong paladin with 150 HP simply died from the spit of the ascended Raphael), so be vigilant.
P.S. The author's advice not to use radiant damage against Raphael is invalid if you are going to keep him in an endless coma of stuns, lethargies or dances. In this case, he will not be able to do anything to you.

She used the dome of invulnerability, and Laezel flew and smashed pillars. There were also servants of water and air. But for some reason Raphael stubbornly ignored this pair. But they regularly beat him up. From the scrolls - chain lightning, tashi's laughter and otto's unbridled dance, ice storm, disintegration. For some reason the devil did not want to die for a very long time. The scrolls are powerful, and not much health was removed at a time. Arrows of magical intervention to impose muteness. The tactic was to hold him in place and not let him do any damage. Hope has a spell of banishment forever, but then you will not get a trophy. In the prison of hope, she banished one observer, and the second was killed and the second one turned out to have a rare ring of paralysis, and what the first one had, one can only guess.

The only downside of the dome is that enemies get in there and also become invulnerable and have to be pushed out by any means necessary. Laezel threw them out, pushed them out, the dome had to be rearranged when the spell ended. So they gradually laid everyone out. But it took a long time. Stupid Yurgir once threw everyone out of the dome. Both his own and the enemy. He walked around invisible and uncontrollable. He didn't fight the devil, only the cambions.

I cast the spell Tasha's Disgusting Laughter at Raphael at random, and ended up kicking him with my whole team every move, but he fell and never got up.

No guides were required. I completed it with one character. On a ranger with a rogue and 2 bonus actions, I simply ran away from Raphael all over his tower, because the arena was not closed. First, with arrows from many targets, then with regular arrows at him, I didn’t even waste arrows against the beasts .Two crossbows, purely physical damage. I think you can put a bunch of barrels in advance at his spawn location even before Nadezhda’s release and destroy him with one shot.

And I still had a bomb with rune powder, so I threw a sphere of invulnerability on the team and used it. She destroyed the columns and all small opponents. She didn’t do much damage to Raphael, but there were no problems with him - she called for a blizzard, a stinking cloud and something else, he was lying around all the time, and I was picking at him. It didn’t turn out very quickly, but I didn’t spend a single HP))

Such a poor fellow 😀 I laughed hard when he plopped down on the floor every move, we beat him like a baby and all this accompanied by his cheerful song about how stupid we are, how hard we fight, but that it’s all in vain. I think in the next playthrough I’ll take pity on him and fight without a bomb according to your guide

The hardest part of this tactic was saving Jurgir so that his remains wouldn't be scattered all over Avernus.

In the battle with Raphael, cambions are normally eliminated by the Banish spell. And according to Raphael, the following worked well: “Ice Storm”, “Lightning Strike”, “Cone of Cold” and other spells and arrows that cause ice and lightning. He turned out to be very vulnerable to them. While Raphael was distracted by Yurgir, the group dispersed to different corners of the foyer (of course, they destroyed the pillars first) and shot the boss from a distance with all this stuff. Plus, he constantly slipped on the icy surface and fell. And Nadezhda mainly treated.
