Gortash and Orin in Baldur's Gate 3 - leaders of the Absolute cult and bearers of two Netherian stones in the third act of the game. You can form an alliance with each of them to kill the other. Due to the fact that it is difficult to suspect both characters of sincerity, it is quite difficult to predict how such agreements will affect the future of travelers.
In this guide we will tell you how to form an alliance with Orin in BG3, and what consequences each of the two choices entails. We will pay special attention to effective methods of killing both leaders.
How to ally with Gortash in Baldur's Gate 3
You can accept Gortash's proposal to plot against Orin during his coronation, in fortresses on Snake Rock. After the ceremony, the lord will offer to get all three Netherian stones for him, including the one that belongs to Orin.
What happens if you Gortash
The alliance with the Archduke is situational and can always be broken, but the very agreement in the dialogue will change many circumstances of the game. Decide whether to enter into an alliance with Gortash based on further consequences:
- Approval rating upon completion of the transaction Karlach will fall greatly, and it will be impossible to have an affair with her.
- If you side with the lord, the Fire Fists will not interfere with exploring Baldur's Gate until they are provoked. This allows for much more freedom to explore the Lower City, something Orin won't be able to offer.
- Having agreed to kill Orin and bring her stone, you will receive help from the Archduke in the confrontation with the Netherian Brain, which will significantly facilitate the last battles in the game.
If you agree to an alliance with Gortash, he will tell you that Orin is hiding in the camp, in the guise of one of the heroes. Until a certain point in the game, it will be impossible to check who exactly is the spy. Orin will expose herself and take a certain character hostage after the party reaches the Lower City. Without waiting for this, do the following:
- Get Amulet of Bhaal.
- Find Temple of Baal in the sewers under the Lower City and make your way inside.
Follow the temple altar and use deception, intimidation or persuasion in dialogue with Orin [KS - 25], which will save your companion from death. The servant of Bhaal will turn her attention to the heroes and turn into a demon that she will have to fight.
Murder of Orin
To harm Orin, you will first need destroy her Unstoppable barrier, absorbing all incoming damage, regardless of its amount. The barrier can be destroyed hitting it 7-12 times. The Magic Missile spell is a great way to quickly knock down a shield, as it deals three hits in one attack. This technique is available Astarion from the start of the game. The general battle plan for the Temple of Bhaal should be as follows:
- First, knock on Orin's shield, simultaneously trying to take as many cultists as possible to the next world, but, at the same time, saving the most powerful spells for later.
- After destroying the shield, unleash your most powerful abilities on the monster.
Interestingly, Orin is effectively immortal until the scene in the Temple of Bhaal. Even if you remove all her HP in battle during previous encounters, she will only fall unconscious.

How to make a deal with Orin in Baldur's Gate 3
Do not agree to Gortash’s proposal in the fortress on Snake Rock, or simply tell him that you have not yet decided which side to take, so as not to spoil your relationship with him ahead of time. Orin will often be encountered by the heroes in the guise of other residents of Baldur's Gate, but dialogues with her will not develop events. Only in a conversation in the sewers under the Lower City will she offer a deal in which the protagonist needs to kill Lord Enver and get the Gortash Stone in Baldur's Gate 3. In response to this, she will promise to release the captured companion from the camp, but if the protagonist comes to the Temple of Bhaal, then he will try to kill the hostage.
What happens if you Orin
The peculiarity of the line of relationships with Orin is that a battle with her cannot be avoided, even if you kill Lord Enver earlier. The Netherian stone, necessary for travelers in the story, can only be obtained through battle in the Temple of Bhaal. Killing Gortash simply changes Orin's lines before the battle.
Murder of Gortash
Throughout the third act, up to the final events, you can defeat Gortash in Baldur's Gate 3 at Serpent Rock. When you first visit the fortress, you can kill him in the ceremony hall; in the future, the lord will always be in his personal chambers. The fight in the first location is very difficult, but the battle in the chambers is easier, so it is recommended to fight there.
We recommend the following tactics: luring Gortash to the second floor of the chambers, since mechanical guards cannot climb ladders, there are also no grenade throwers or other defense mechanisms at the top:
- Follow to Gortash's chambers through the Reception Hall. To be allowed in, deceive the guard [KS - 25].
- Separate one hero from the group and check the left wall from the entrance to the chambers. Use Misty Step or Flight to move to the wooden balcony leading to the second floor of the chambers.
- Hack the door to the second floor [KS - 15].
- Go to the upper level of the chambers and be sure to lock the doors behind you so that the mechanical guard does not peek. There is a lever here that lowers the ladder - pull it and order the group to climb up.
- Separate one character from the group and run to Gortash. Next, drink the Speed Potion, switch to turn-based mode and stealth, shoot at the lord from afar and run to the second floor - this will aggro Gortash, and he will follow the group upstairs.
In an ideal scenario, no one except the Archduke and maybe 1-2 guards will climb up. Killing the lord here will be much easier, due to the lack of combat advantages in the form of guards, traps and defensive structures.

Who to Kill: Orin or Gortasha in BG3
Gortash's protection makes it easier to explore Baldur's Gate and is more suitable for leisurely exploration by a neutral or good hero. On the other hand, an alliance with Orin does not provide any special bonuses: you can become an assassin of Bhaal without her knowledge, but you will have to fight with her in any case. Thus, from a practical point of view, an agreement with the lord appears to be more beneficial. The choice of whether to enter into an alliance with Gortash is entirely up to your own taste: the decision will not change the ending of the game.
