Avenge the drowned in Baldur's Gate 3: how to find the owner of the poisonous creature

Avenge the drowned in Baldur's Gate 3 - a side quest that becomes available in the third act of the game. This time the heroes need to solve the mysterious murder of one of the temple servants and find out what really happened to the girl.

During the investigation, you will have to visit several locations in order to get on the trail of the killer and decide his future fate. In the guide we will tell you how to open a task and find out the culprit, whether it is worth punishing the criminal and what reward you can get for this.

How to start the quest Avenge the Drowned

To begin the "Avenge the Drowned" quest, head to House of the Lady of the Waters, south of the Gray Bay Docks rune circle. At the entrance you will meet one of the temple sisters with whom you can talk. The girl will tell you about the funeral and guide the heroes further: just follow the chorus of voices to find the place where the deceased was sent off.

Talk to Abbess Allandra and find out the details. During the dialogue, the woman will complain about the “metal monster” responsible for Holly’s death. She will ask the heroes to kill the “trainer” of this underwater creature, which is going against the will of Lady Umberly, and will promise an invaluable gift for the work done, and a quest will appear in the journal.

Next, we will tell you in detail where to find the owner of the “mechanical killer” and what to do with him, as well as what reward you can receive if you successfully complete the task.

Find the owner of the poisonous creature

To find out all the details of the tragedy, return to Gray Bay Docks. On the pier you will see a fisherman - Goulana. It was he who caught the girl’s body from the water and is not against sharing information with the heroes. Ask him all the questions you are interested in and find out the location of the alleged killer.

Search Flimm's Cargo

After the dialogue, go to Flimm's Cargoes - they are located east of the Gray Bay docks. You can go around the pier on the north side, but there is a high probability of running into smugglers here, so it will be faster and safer to go southeast from the teleport Baldur's Gate.

You can get inside in different ways:

  • Hack the main door on the west side [KS – 20];
  • Climb onto the roof on the eastern side and from there quietly sneak into the building [KS - 15];
  • Through the Chamber of s or the sewer system of the Lower City.

The easiest option would be to go ahead, but in this case you will have to fight with five wargs. It's easy to defeat them, but if you want to avoid battle, sneak into the mission unnoticed, through the roof. Please note that you will still have to go down to find the hatch to the basement littered with boxes.

Explore the basement of Flimm's Cargoes

After going down to the basement, follow forward. Along the way, you can break open the locked metal boxes and pick up several notes from them, although they will not affect the further development of events. The first chest contains Plans for the underwater complex [KS – 10], and in the second – Water labor [KS – 15]. There is a third similar box that was broken into, but it is empty.

Follow further until you reach the underwater deck, on which the inventor stands, and a submarine is visible in the water.

Inventor Red Hammer: negotiate or kill

If you enter into a dialogue with a stranger, the dwarf its that he could have killed a couple of temple servants while sailing on a submarine. There are three options for further developments:

  • Immediately kill the inventor, then return to the temple and report the completion of the mission to receive a well-deserved reward.
  • First, enter into negotiations with the Red Hammer, having found out about the underwater prison Iron Throne, in which Will's father and other Gondians are kept and then killed.
  • Convince the inventor to take the heroes to prison in exchange for protection, but then be prepared for the fact that the servants of the House of the Lady of the Waters will be unhappy and will have to fight with them.

When choosing, keep in mind that you can get to the Iron Throne prison without outside help, so the inventor Red Hammer is not a required character to get there.

Possible bug

If the squad has already completed the task "Disable the Steel Guard at the Foundry", then the quest “Avenge the Drowned” may not be available. Also, if you have previously visited an underwater prison, then there is a high probability that the inventor simply will not be there. Take a long rest so that the prisoners leave the Iron Throne (if they were rescued earlier), and the Red Hammer reappears at the desired point. If this does not help, then try loading an earlier save, otherwise you will have to wait for future game updates when the situation is corrected.

Awards

For completing the quest you will receive a very rare armor “Wave Matter Mantle”, which has the following properties:

  • Armor class +1, makes it possible to use the 1st circle spell “Create or destroy water”;
  • Temperature adjustment: the wearer gains resistance to fire and cold damage;
  • Water Rejuvenation: The wearer is healed by 1-4 HP if standing on a water surface at the start of their turn.

The task Avenge the Drowned is related to quests “Save the Grand Duke of Ravengard”, so it is recommended to go through it before going to the underwater prison. It is best to punish the culprit according to his deserts, free the prisoners yourself, and then receive a reward from Abbess Allandra.
